Resurrection is Here.

Easter Sunday. Resurrection Day. People celebrate Easter in many different ways. Some with baskets of candy, some with plates of food, some with services of worship and some with acts of kindness. But HOW you celebrate is really second to WHY you celebrate. I celebrate because today represents the day that my Savior conquered death and the grave, and offered me life. Resurrection.

This concept of resurrection has been debated, doubted and supposedly debunked. A lot of Christians claim to believe in the resurrection, but fail to see how the power of it today in their own lives. Just as Jesus conquered death centuries ago, those claim to be in Him have conquered it as well. We no longer are susceptible to a spiritual death, but will forever live in eternity with Him. We, too, have been resurrected. Our "old self" has been put to death, and our lives began anew in Christ.

Romans 6: 3-11 says "That's what baptism into the life of Jesus means. When we are lowered into the water, it is like the burial of Jesus; when we are raised up out of the water, it is like the resurrection of Jesus. Each of us is raised into a light-filled world by our Father so that we can see where we're going in our new grace-sovereign country. Could it be any clearer? Our old way of life was nailed to the cross with Christ, a decisive end to that sin-miserable life—no longer at sin's every beck and call! What we believe is this: If we get included in Christ's sin-conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection. We know that when Jesus was raised from the dead it was a signal of the end of death-as-the-end. Never again will death have the last word. When Jesus died, he took sin down with him, but alive he brings God down to us. From now on, think of it this way: Sin speaks a dead language that means nothing to you; God speaks your mother tongue, and you hang on every word. You are dead to sin and alive to God. That's what Jesus did."

It's beautiful, really. New life springing up where there was once death. And this resurrection isn't just for Easter Sunday, but throughout the year. We can daily "die" to those "old self" desires and choose to live in the resurrection of our new selves.
